I thought that this book was a little slow in the beginning, there just wasn’t anything that made me want to consume it. I think that Meira is such an amazing leading character, she is such a stong character, she is a true badass. As a queen and a leader I think that she will really eccel, from what we see from Hannah, Meira seems a lot like her. Mather, on the other hand, I didn’t like so much in this book, it becomes clear that he has feeling for her but he just seems like he isn’t very confident in himself, and he always seems like he is unsure of what to do.
Regardless of how I feel about him in the book I do think I will like him more in the rest of the series, I just think that he will start to grow more into himself and become more confident now that he is no longer the heir to winter and he no longer has that pressure.
Theron is the one I’m rooting for but I’m sad to say that I have a feeling that won’t work out, but I love him because he does seem confident of who he is, and unlike Mather he doesn’t try to hide how he feels about Meira, its pretty obvious that he likes her and that he doesn’t want Mather to be with her. Sir William I had conflicted feelings about, I wasn’t very fond of him the beginning because he always seemed so cold towards Meira, but know I see that there is a reason for how he acted (ex. He wouldn’t let Meira go on missions or into battle not because he didn’t think she couldn’t do it but because she is the true heir of winter.) King Noam isn’t someone that I like at all, he’s too much of a coward, and he never seems to think that when something goes wrong he is never to blame, it’s always someone elses fault. Angra Manu is a brilliant antagonist, I love how he seems a little like a legend because we don’t get to meet him until near the end of the book, but he really does live up to his reputation as being cold-hearted, but I don’t think that we have heard the last of him quite yet.
Cam and I did theorize that Meira was the true heir of winter and I’m glade to see that much of what we thought was true. Even besides that I was still blown away by the ending of this book, and I can’t wait to see what challenges comes next. The world that Sara Raasch created is truly wonderful, and you can tell its going to grow into something truely spectacular. The ending was wonderful, and her being able to be amongst her people and gain their trust before she even knows who she truely is so wonderful, the next book will be so great and I cannot wait.
